Tallahassee’s theater scene is not defined by its venues but by its people.
People who give their time, talent, and passion to this amazing art form. One local actor, John Campana, not only entertains audiences but also creates memories that stay with us long after the curtain falls. And you can see him at work on Southern Shakespeare Company’s annual Bar(d) Crawl on Sept. 18-19.
For Campana, the stage is a constant source of discovery, enrichment, and growth that has inspired other performers and deepened connections, especially with his family, all of whom contribute to the arts and theatre community in Tallahassee. “We are so lucky, in Tallahassee,” Campana said, “to have a community that is rich in the arts.”
Campana’s expertise in theater is strong and multi-layered. He holds a bachelor of fine arts in theatre and a master’s degree with an emphasis on acting and directing. With his experience and knowledge, Campana built a deep understanding and appreciation of the craft early in his theatrical journey.
“I was lucky to go to a high school that produced two musicals each year,” Campana said. “I had wonderful parents and mentors who nurtured my interest in the arts. I took music lessons. Played the piano. Danced. And then one day I was asked to play in the pit for the fall musical. And I said, ‘No, I would rather audition.’” Campana stepped onto the stage and never looked back.
