Ghost in the Machine? AI and the Future of Faith

The God Squad returns for Season 17 on Friday, October 30, noon-1 PM at First Baptist Church with “Ghost in the Machine? AI and the Future of Faith.” This timely topic on the eve of the spookiest of holidays will tackle a looming existential frontier: Artificial Intelligence and its quiet, profound disruption of the spiritual world.

We talk constantly about how AI will reshape jobs, politics, and school. But data shows that algorithms are encroaching on our souls, too. People are already using large language models to draft prayers, synthesize complex scriptures, and seek automated ethical advice. Meanwhile, sociologists note a chilling trend: history shows that as societies become more reliant on high-tech automation, traditional religious adherence frequently drops.

Can an algorithm process genuine spiritual wisdom, or does relying on a machine erode the very essence of human discernment? What happens to faith when a chatbot becomes a primary spiritual authority for a new generation? If a machine can mimic compassion, empathy, and theology, what does it actually mean to be a human being created in the divine image?

Register to reserve your seat for a fascinating and future-focused conversation on how our ancient religious traditions plan to navigate an automated future without losing their humanity. Bring your curiosity, an open mind, and your most human questions. The God Squad is plugging in.
