The art community refers to me as just NED, that simple.
I am a contemporary realist painter based in Tallahassee, Florida, who specializes in oil portraiture and equally in photography. After years of working with acrylics, I transitioned to oils to leverage the medium’s slower drying time and greater color brilliance. My work is defined by two distinct pillars: “Quirky Portraiture” – I am known for my portraits of children, which I often describe as my “creepy kids”. My goal is to evoke a sense of slight unease in the viewer through intense, realistic gazes. “Landscape Photography” – I draw inspiration from the Florida / Georgia landscape, specifically its massive cloud formations, pine forests, marshes, and swamps.
I maintained a studio, Renditions An Art Space in Railroad Square for 18 years, before being destroyed by the May 2024 Tallahassee tornadoes. I now work out of my home a bit outside Tallahassee.
