The U.S. National Science Foundation is offering grants to nonprofit organizations, IHEs, and Tibal organizations for research on languages that are under threat of extinction.
The deadline for this grant is September 15, 2026.
The maximum award for this grant is $450,000.
Eligible applicants are IHEs acting on behalf of their faculty members; nonprofit, non-academic organizations; and Tribal organizations and other American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian serving organizations. Proposed projects may range from a single investigator to a team of investigators.
Funds are intended to support projects in the areas of infrastructure, language description, and computational methods. Eligible activities include, but are not limited to, data management, archiving, digital recording, and documentation and analysis. Funding is available in the form of one- to three-year senior research grants and conference proposals.
Restrictions include: For-profit organizations are not eligible to apply to this program, however, personnel in for-profit organizations may participate as co-investigators; Conference proposals should be submitted at least a year in advance of the scheduled date of the conference.
