Theme: Make it Greener – thinking through your ideal safe haven. what symbols are present in your life that you need to be reminded of? what does your world-building look like?
Provided Craft Project: Collage / Vision Board Home is wherever the heart is! We made our “dream house”, which is whatever reminds and centers you back to what feels like home. Whether that’s a beloved pet, a memory you want to encapsulate, or you’re still in the pre-planning phase to build the home you want, we are all united by love and community.
Come join us for a Tuesday evening of crafting in community! Participants will share space and work on either the provided craft or are welcome to bring their own craft project to work on.
During the meet-up facilitator Romeo Mendoza (he/they) will encourage everyone to be willing to explore deeply within themselves through their passion for the arts: storytelling, community bonding, and personal identity work through the ages from the environment that has crafted you to be the person you are today. The themes discussed are rooted to help you reflect on your healing and journey as a trans person living life in all of its shades and hues, such as your personal history and origins, love, grief, and being present to engage in gratitude.
Crafting supplies are provided for free, including: air dry clay, markers, colored pencils, watercolor and acrylic paints, crayons, collage materials, scissors, paint brushes.
Trans*formations is designed for members of the trans community to explore their identities and build community. We ask that participants self-identify under the trans umbrella, which includes non-binary and gender non-conforming folks. For more information on this event please see our Trans*formations: Beyond the Binary program page.
This meeting is a BIPOC-only space. BIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. As described by our facilitator, Romeo Mendoza, “Naming and self-naming are important tools for us to connect to become closer to our identities and to share our experiences in community to empower ourselves against oppressive systems in a White-dominated society. Language becomes something to unify and align ourselves with to recognize and realize that we are powerful when we are in solidarity with one another instead of continuing systemic cycles of oppression.
