This event will explore the Red Hills Region’s history through the life and descendants of Henry Wright, a formerly enslaved man who voted as a free man in the 1867 election, and raised a family in the Lake Iamonia and Bradfordville areas. The morning session promises a unique experience with a wagon ride and guided tour of the restored Jones Tenant Farm House, a preserved example of tenant farm life at Tall Timbers. Following the field tour, Rebecca Sloan Dickey, CPM, and Natalie King-Pedroso, PhD, will lead a discussion about their family and African-American life at Tall Timbers Research Station (formerly Tall Timbers Plantation). The event will culminate with socializing and a taste of authentic foods that have nourished African American communities for generations.
