Stagecraft and Art Classes at Making Light Productions

Stagecraft 1: Intro to Props | Ages 8–18 | Mondays at 6:00 PM

Students learn how theatrical props are designed, built, painted, and finished through imaginative hands-on projects. They may create fake food, prop weapons, faux animals, magical objects, and other pieces inspired by the needs and possibilities of live theatre.

This introductory class develops creativity, problem-solving, tool safety, and practical construction skills. No previous prop-making or stagecraft experience is required.

Stagecraft 2: Prop Shop | Ages 12–18 | Wednesdays at 5:30 PM

Students with previous prop-making experience take on more complex builds for Making Light productions. Projects may include floating kites, prop bones, special effects, large-scale creations, and other unusual objects needed for the stage.

Students develop their skills in planning, construction, painting, finishing, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. At least one semester of prop-making experience is required.

Arts & Crafts | Ages 5–18 | Thursdays at 4:30 PM

Students explore painting, drawing, sculpture, and a variety of creative techniques through fun, hands-on projects. The class introduces artistic fundamentals while giving students room to experiment with materials, develop their own ideas, and create work they are excited to take home.

No previous art experience is required.

Homeschool Stagecraft & Costuming | Ages 10–18 | Tuesdays at 12:30 PM

Homeschool students explore the visual and technical elements that bring theatrical productions together. Through hands-on projects, students learn about costume design, props, scenic design, stagecraft, dramaturgy, and production planning.

Students build practical creative skills while learning how different design areas work together to support a production. No previous theatre, sewing, or stagecraft experience is required.
